The Friends’ Annual Appeal for 2019 aims to help fund shade sails for Harborside Park.

The beautiful new deck, known as Harborside Park, consistently hosts scores of tourists and locals alike as they relax to watch dolphins frolic in Taylor’s Creek, the boats drift past, or enjoy the horses and birds on the Rachel Carson Reserve.  Imagine how grateful they will be to escape from the heat on a sunny summer day under colorful shade sails.

The total cost of the project is estimated at $50,000.  Moneys from the Museum’s donation box will provide $25,000.  So our goal for the Annual Appeal is $25,000.

If you are wondering why three shade sails cost this much, think about the tension the five vertical supports must resist when three sails are stretched horizontally across 40 feet.

Since 1988, generous donations to the Friends in support of the Harborside property have totaled $370,000, including acquisition of land.
